Contact technique workshop for advanced


Come learn new lifts and deepen your skills in contact work!

We will strengthen the skill of following contact point and directing with movement, strenghten lifting techniques, learn different movement paths that can be applied in your own dance, and expand the possibilities of using levels. In the advanced course, we will learn to reach backwards and be upside down. We will learn more challenging lifting techniques and gain more confidence in being a base and a flyer. No specific skills are required, but participants are expected to be ready and willing to learn lifts and work with contact.

The course is suitable for those who have some experience of contact work, for example:

  • from contemporary dance classes

  • from Mimmi's Basics of Contact Work course

  • from contact improvisation jams or courses

  • from pair work classes in EK-techniques classes

  • or something similar

No specific skills are required, but participant are expected to be ready and willing to learn lifts and work with contact.

The four-time intensive course is part of the Jyväskylä Dance Institute's summer semester intensive period.

The course will be held in Finnish and in English if necessary.

The teacher is Mimmi Salo, a dance teacher and dancer specializing in pair work and contact improvisation.

Time: Monday 1.6., Tuesday 2.6., Monday 8.6. and Tuesday 9.6. at 7.45-9.00 pm., total 4 × 75 min

Location: Jyväskylä Dance Institute (Jyväskylän Tanssiopisto = JTO), Vapaudenkatu 48-50, 40100 Jyväskylä

Price: €80 for JTO members, €100 for non-members. Membership fee €15, you can become a member when registering.

Early bird price: -10% for members and -5% for non-members, if registration is made by May 15.
